Taitem provided LEED commissioning for an addition to this elementary school, featuring a solar preheat wall and advanced HVAC and lighting controls scheduled around class times.
One significant discovery was that the building staff and installing contractor were unable to program the exterior lighting. The lights were being left on instead of turning them on at dusk and off at 11:00. Taitem worked with the manufacturer to program the lights, resulting in significant energy savings.
Cherry Road Elementary School/Westhill Central School District
Sustainability was the key goal in designing the 32,000 SF addition to the historic Cherry Road Elementary School, located within the close-knit Westvale neighborhood of Syracuse, NY.
The project consisted of seven classrooms, a gymnasium, locker rooms, a PE office, a music room and a teachers’ conference room.
Cherry Road School was awarded for Outstanding Design by American School and University magazine.
